William Duncan

I started my artistic career working as a stage technician/carpenter at various theatres in London.

After completing a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course, I had the opportunity to teach and travel abroad. I travelled to various countries, and finally settled in São Paulo, Brazil where I taught English for 15 years.

During this time, I completed an art and design course at a prestigious Art School and achieved a Diploma in Fine Art. I also studied art history with a well-known Brazilian art critic and shared a studio with the painter and sculptor Ilka Lemos.

My partner, Alex Rezende and I then moved to Paraty, Rio de Janeiro state, where we opened our art studio. We lived and worked as artists there for 5 years before returning to the UK. We spent two years in Bristol where we showed our work at various venues and then moved to Liverpool where we are currently based.

As a result of many years of traveling and seeing different cultures, my painting, my feelings, and my soul exploded in colours and texture.

My work expresses my connections with Brazil, Australia, and other places in nature that I have lived and visited. But for all my travels, I have never left behind my British influence.

In this exhibition you can see a flavour of some of my life experiences around the world expressed through my art.
